FIND FACTS- 12/16/11- FRIDAY

New Zealander Annette Swoffer got the surprise of her life when she found a baby seal in her kitchen, who later began to snooze on her couch, the New Zealand Herald reports.

According to the report, the seal wandered from the bay waterfront, through a residential area, across busy roads, under a gate, through a cat door, and up some stairs before he was found at around 9:30 p.m.

"I thought 'I'm hallucinating, this is just wrong,'" Swoffer told the paper. "Then it looks at me with those huge brown eyes. It was so cute..."

Swoffer then called the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), who called the Department of Conservation. According to a report by Stuff.co.nz, the department was already looking for the pup.

When biodiversity program manager Chris Clark came to pick up the animal, he told Swoffer he'd been looking for the seal all afternoon and that it had likely just been weaned from its mother.

Department of Conservation's Katrina Knill elaborated on the state of the New Zealand fur seal population in an email to The Huffington Post:

"seal populations are starting to recover in the western Bay of Plenty, and are believed to be breeding on Motuanau (Plate) Island, which is approximately 12km offshore.
At this time of year, young seals are dispersing from the rookeries. Seal pups may often spend days at a time alone, whilst the mother is away foraging for food.

Seals usually occupy rocky shores in places that have some protection from heavy seas and are often found resting on Bay of Plenty beaches.

Occasionally they travel inland (usually via estuaries and waterways). When on land they can become disoriented and have been found on previous occasions in unexpected places such as backyards, drains and streets.

Seals are wild animals and the Department's policy is to return them to the care of their natural habitat. Knill went on to write that seals can carry infectious diseases and injure humans, so members of the public should contact authorities if they see a seal in trouble or in an odd location.

What would you do in a situation like this? Would you kill the animal? Keep the animal? or Just set it free?

Birds crash-land at Wal-Mart _Thousands of migratory birds died on impact after apparently mistaking a Wal-Mart car park and other areas for bodies of water and plummeting to the ground.

Crews went to work cleaning up the dead birds and rescuing the survivors after the creatures crash-landed in St. George, Utah, in what one wildlife expert called the worst downing she's ever seen.
The crash happened on Monday night and by midday Wednesday, volunteers had helped rescue more than 3,000 birds, releasing them into nearby bodies of water.

Stormy conditions probably confused the flock of grebes, a duck-like aquatic bird likely making its way to Mexico for the winter, which tried to land in a Cedar City Wal-Mart car park and elsewhere.
The birds plunged into the car park, football fields, highways and over miles of property that had been blanketed by about three inches of gleaming snow. At least 1,500 are believed to have died.

The storm clouds over the top of the city lights made it look like a nice, flat body of water. All the conditions were right,’ Ms Griffin told The Spectrum newspaper in St. George.
'Before there were (artificial lights), the sky was always paler than the ground. When all of a sudden there's light all over the place, they don't know which way is up anymore'
Kevin McGowan
‘So the birds landed to rest, but ended up slamming into the pavement.’ No human injuries or property damage have been reported.
Kevin McGowan, who studies birds at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology in Ithaca, New York, said grebes rely on starlight to navigate during their nighttime migration.
'Before there were (artificial lights), the sky was always paler than the ground,' he said. 'When all of a sudden there's light all over the place, they don't know which way is up anymore.'

A Buffalo girls basketball team was suspended after the players allegedly used a racial slur as part of their pregame cheer.

Tyra Batts, the sole African-American on the Kenmore East High School’s squad, told the Buffalo News that her teammates would hold hands before the game, say a prayer and then shout "One, two, three (n------)."

The practice came to light when Tyra was suspended for getting into a fight about the use of racial slurs during practice, according to the newspaper.

She said that she was alarmed by the cheer, but had been outnumbered and told that the use of the slur was just a team tradition.

"I said, 'You're not allowed to say that word because I don't like that word,'" she told the newspaper. "They said, 'You know we're not racist, Tyra. It's just a word, not a label.' I was outnumbered."

The 15-year-old eventually exploded after a practice when a teammate called her a 'black piece of (expletive).’ She says she got into a fight with the girl later in school.

"It was a buildup of anger and frustration at being singled out of the whole team," she told the newspaper.

Tyra’s suspension was shortened after the principal learned of the racial allegations. At least a dozen girls were suspended.

Some of the team's former players who took to Twitter seemed to have little knowledge of any “tradition” the team had of racial chants.

"You (racist) b----," a 2010 graduate tweeted. "Glad I'm out of there."

Another one added, "Haha oh yeah that Ken East crap that's going on. I want no part in that."

Teen wakes sleepy bus driver, A quick-thinking 17-year-old jumped up and grasped the hand of a school bus driver just as he started nodding off at the wheel. Emmanuel Williams said the unnamed driver, an eight-year veteran now on leave, had been driving erratically since he picked up students. There’s one key rule to being a passenger … always keep an eye on the driver!

A teenager has become a hero for thinking quickly on his feet and preventing a bus driver who fell asleep at the wheel from crashing.

17 year-old Emmanuel Williams along with 24 other students were headed home from school when he noticed the bus was swerving and missed an exit.

The 65-year-old driver had apparently nodded off and was no longer focused on the road. Without hesitation, Williams jumped up and awoke the driver before anything tragic could happen.

“I was looking at him and his eyes would close, and when we’d get to a turn, he’d look both ways, start driving again, and they would close more and more,” Williams said. “And as soon as I see his head go down, and I see the bus go back to the freeway, I hop up, get to the front of the bus as fast as I can. I guess I just did it because it was right to do.”

Once the driver was back alert and awake, he regained control of the bus.

In the days that followed the incident, Williams says he pondered over what could have happened if he wasn’t paying attention. “Something would have happened if I didn’t get up,” he said. “I know that there would have been a big huge thing going on because he would have crashed and it would have been a whole lot more than what it is now.”

Tacoma Public Schools District says the driver had a clean driving record with no accidents during eight years.

“Certainly safety is very important to us and to the families involved, and we want to get to the bottom of it and make sure nothing like this happens again,” said Dan Voelpel of Tacoma Public Schools. “It’s unusual. It’s not something we’ve dealt with before.”

The driver has been placed on administrative leave while the incident is under investigation.

AP) SEATTLE - A Seattle chiropractor and his wife live in a $1.2 million waterfront home and have spent the past eight years flying to Moscow, Paris, Israel, Turkey, Mexico and the Dominican Republic.

All the while, federal authorities say, the couple was collecting more than $100,000 in public welfare payments.

Now, the U.S. attorney's office is suing David Silverstein and Lyudmila Shimonova, accusing them of filing false claims and demanding that the couple pay back more than $135,000 in federal housing assistance since 2003. Prosecutors are also seeking tens of thousands of dollars in fines.

In gaining housing assistance, Shimonova represented that she lived alone with her two children and that her household assets were less than $5,000. Silverstein received the monthly benefits of $1,272 as Shimonova's purported landlord, the government said.

Shimonova also received benefits under the federal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program, as well as Social Security cash reserved for people who can't work due to age or disability and whose assets fall below a certain threshold — $3,000 for a married couple or $2,000 for a single person, the complaint said.

Meanwhile, they were traveling the world, according to Department of Homeland Security records.

Michael Radyshewsky, a federal welfare fraud investigator, wrote in an application to search the couple's home that they took weeklong trips to Moscow in 2003, Dominican Republic in 2005, and Mexico and France in 2009. In 2007, they went for 12 days to Israel, and this past June they took a two-week trip to Turkey. Seattle couple accused of stealing $100,000, couple on welfare,

Silverstein said Tuesday his lawyer asked him not to comment. The home did not appear to have a listed phone number, and no contact information for Shimonova could immediately be found.

In a heroic story beyond reason, a yellow lab named Reagan made a discovery on an Iowa roadside that saved two precious lives.

Two kittens had been sealed into a bag of Meow Mix, left on a roadside and run over by traffic on a rural Iowa highway about three months ago, WHOTV.com reports.

It was Reagan the dog who dragged the bag home and whined until his owner opened it. Reagan's owner discovered two kittens barely hanging onto life, while the rest of the litter hadn't survived, prompting a call to the Raccoon Valley Animal Sanctuary.

"There was a litter of four or five of them and you couldn't tell if there were two or three [in the bag]...they had been run over by a vehicle. It was not a pretty sight," Linda Blakely of the animal shelter told WHOTV.com.

The Raccoon Valley Animal Sanctuary is now housing the two kittens -- Skipper and Tipper -- who weren't originally expected to live through the ordeal. The two were bottled-fed every two hours and are now back to their normal lively selves, the news outlet reports.

Thanks to Reagan, both kittens are now up for adoption through the Raccoon Valley Animal Sanctuary.

CHICAGO (AP) - Teen sexting of nude photos online or via cellphone may be far less common than people think, new research suggests.

Only 1 percent of kids aged 10 to 17 have shared images of themselves or others that involve explicit nudity, a nationally representative study found. Roughly the same number said they’d shared suggestive but less graphic photos; while 7 percent said they’d received either type of picture.

The research focused on teens only _ not young adults, an age group included in some earlier studies which showed considerably higher sexting participation. The new study suggests texting of sexual photos among younger kids is rare.

The results are reassuring, showing that teen sexting isn’t rampant, usually isn’t malicious, and is generally not something parents should panic over, said lead author Kimberly Mitchell, a research assistant psychology professor at the University of New Hampshire.

Previous reports said as many as 1 in 5 young people, or 20 percent, have participated in sexting. But some surveys included older teens and people in their early 20s. And some used definitions of sexting that included racy text messages without photos, or images “no more revealing than what someone might see at a beach,” authors of the new study said.

An Associated Press-MTV poll done in August found that 7 percent of teens said they had sent a naked photo of themselves. That result was for older teens _ 14 to 17 _ and was conducted online.

The latest study focused only on pictures, and asked more detailed questions about the kinds of racy photos kids are sharing.

Is this stuff legal? What would you do if you found out that your children were showing racy pictures of themselves to God knows who? What if it was your parents, what would you do?

BRENTWOOD, N.H. --A New Hampshire man was sentenced to 15 to 30 years in prison Friday for beating his wife to death with a flashlight after he came home to find she had strangled their 4-year-old son with a ribbon and tried to kill their 7-year-old daughter.

Christopher Smeltzer, 38, pleaded guilty to killing Mara Pappalardo, who was hospitalized several times for mental illness. Prosecutors say she was paranoid, obsessed with death and convinced her husband and mother-in-law were plotting to take her children away.

"When I walked into the room, as soon as I saw my son, I knew something was very wrong," Smeltzer told the court before he was sentenced, his voice breaking at times. "I knew he was dead. And I lost all control. Enraged, I struck my wife. I did something that was not going to bring my son back."

Smeltzer was charged with second-degree murder in the November 2010 killing at their Auburn home. Prosecutors later downgraded that to manslaughter, saying he was provoked by the sight of the still bodies of their son, Mason, and daughter, Mercey.

He arrived home Nov. 7 to find Mason with a ribbon around his neck and Mercey with a scarf around hers. He thought both were dead. Pappalardo tied a blue rope around her own neck in an attempt to kill herself, although prosecutors said she died from both strangulation and Smeltzer hitting her in the head with the flashlight.

Smeltzer did not call 911. Instead, he snipped the ribbon off Mason's neck and removed the scarf from Mercey's. Then he took all the pills he could find -- painkillers, sleeping aids and methadone -- and lay down on the couch to die.

He was awakened the next morning by Mercey, who asked if her mother and brother were breathing and requested a cup of tea. He made her one, then called his father and 911.

Smeltzer, who was wearing handcuffs Friday, wept while talking about how much he misses his son. "I miss my wife as well," he said. "I miss Mara's smile and heart and the way she played with our children."

He apologized to her family. "I brought more pain and sorrow," he said, adding he wishes every day he had a rewind button.

Judge Tina Nadeau said if Smeltzer earns a college degree and completes anger management behind bars, his minimum sentence would be reduced to 10 years.

While he maintains his innocence in the first-degree murder case he's been fighting in Baton Rouge, La., since June 2010, rapper Lil Boosie has pleaded guilty to drug smuggling charges and received an eight-year sentence, WAFT TV reports.

The Louisiana MC, whose real name is Torrence Hatch, admitted that he tried to sneak illegal substances into two separate correctional facilities -- the Dixon Correctional Center and the Angola State Penitentiary.

Boosie asked that his sentence include drug rehabilitation, and while Judge Mike Erwin agreed to recommend it, he's unable to order said penalty.

Erwin also set April 30, 2012, as the start date for Boosie's murder trial. The embattled 'Wipe Me Down' rhymer is accused of hiring two men to kill 35-year-old Baton Rouge resident Terry Boyd.

Since being locked up for that offense, Boosie has been linked to a series of other slayings, and earlier this year, 18-year-old Michael "Mario Mike" Louding told police the troubled hip-hopper paid him $15,000 to murder fellow rapper Chris "Nussie" Jackson.

According to WAFT, it's unknown at this time whether Boosie faces the death penalty

Is this what happens to all rappers who embrace the "thug life" they put out on their recordings? What is your opinion? Do you know of any rapper man or woman who has never faced any criminal charges...ever! And yet, talked about the "thug Life"?

Old habits die hard. TLC band member, T-Boz, has reportedly filed for bankruptcy for the second time since doing so in 1995.

TMZ reports that Tionne Watkins aka T-Boz filed for bankruptcy in October. According to the court papers, she’s hoping to unload about $768,643 in debt to creditors – primarily mortgage payments for her $1.2 million dollar home.

Apparently, the rapper and singer has an income of $11,700 a month and describes her monthly expenses as only totaling $8,821. With several successes during her career with TLC -- which includes four multi-platinum selling albums – she only gets $1,200 a month in royalties.

T-Boz claims on the court papers that she is currently owed $250,000 in child support payments.

In 1995, T-Boz and her TLC band mates made headlines when they filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy at the height of the success of their Grammy-winning album, CrazySexyCool, which sold 11-million copies in the U.S. alone.

In 2004, T-Boz tried to show her entrepreneurial skills on Donald Trump’s The Celebrity Apprentice on NBC, but was fired after the show’s sixth task after she volunteered to return to the boardroom. Last year, she also appeared on band mate Chilli’s VH1 reality show, What Chilli Wants, which chronicled the singer’s search for love.

Lithonia, Georgia (CNN) -- A lawyer for the family of Robert Champion, a Florida university drum major who died this month in what officials have called a hazing-related death, said Monday he will file a lawsuit against the school.

"We are intending to file a lawsuit to get answers" about hazing at Florida Agriculture and Mechanical University, lawyer Chris Chestnut told reporters. "We are concerned about the culture of coverup, that hazing has been covered up at the Band FAMU for generations. So, it's time now that we expose the truth, eradicate this culture, and come up with creative remedies on how to continue the excellence of FAMU's band, but without hazing."

Chestnut said he was not at liberty to discuss the facts of the case, and noted that the medical examiner has not issued a report on the cause of death of the 26-year-old musician. But, he added, the facts that have emerged to date "point to the fact that hazing was a cause of Robert Champion's death, and it was under FAMU's watch."

He said he could not address the scope of the lawsuit, but added, "I can tell you that FAMU will be named in it."

Chestnut described hazing at the school as a don't-ask, don't-tell culture. "The family's message today is: Please, tell."

Because FAMU is a state institution, it is protected by sovereign immunity, which means that Chestnut must file a notice of intention to sue as a prerequisite to the suit, the lawyer said. "After a six-month window, we will file a lawsuit," he added.

"He loved the band -- so much, I always called him Mr. Band," Champion's mother, Pam Champion, told reporters. "That was his life."

FIND FACTS- 11/25/11- FRIDAY

Months after a jury couldn't decide his fate, a Southern California teen has agreed to plead guilty for gunning down a gay classmate three years ago in their junior high classroom.

In September, a judge declared a mistrial in the case of Brandon McInerney, now 17, after jurors said they were hopelessly deadlocked following a nine-week trial on whether he should be found guilty of manslaughter or murder. The next month, the Ventura County District Attorney's Office announced that McInerney would be retried on first-degree murder charges as an adult. McInerney also was tried as an adult in the first trial.

The district attorney's office said Monday that, since then, it had "carefully reviewed the jury's determination" and talked with some jurors. It also engaged in talks with the victim's family, McInerney and his attorneys after which the relevant parties "agreed upon a disposition that balances the unique facts of the case with the need to protect the public."

Specifically, McInerney pleaded guilty to killing Lawrence King "under the penal code sections for both murder and voluntary manslaughter," as well as to using a firearm in that crime. He will serve 11 years for manslaughter and 10 years for the use of a firearm, according to the district attorney's office. His formal sentencing is set for December 19.

"He will serve the entire 21 years without time off for good behavior and will not receive time off his sentence for the three years and nine months he has spent in juvenile hall before sentencing," the prosecutor's office said, concluding that he'd then serve nearly 25 years total.

A Utah wife has made headlines after she listed her video game obsessed husband for sale on Craigslist. The woman's ad describes the man as "easy to maintain and only needs food and water every few hours."
Alyse Bradley says she posted the ad "just for fun" after a recent 48-hour long gaming stretch left her feeling alone and ignored by the recently discharged military veteran.
The ad reads: "I am selling my 22 year old husband. He enjoys eating and playing video games all day. Easy to maintain, just feed and water every 3-5 hours. You must have Internet and space for gaming. Got tired of waiting so free to good home. If acceptable replacement is offered will trade."
Bradley said the problem got worse after the November 8th release of Modern Warfare 3. She claims her husband stood in line to buy the game and hasn't put down the controller's since, reports ABC 4 News.
Joseph Baddley admitted his obsession with the game "is not normal," but defended his virtual gaming by saying it was how he stayed connected with friends from the military. The Baddley's were married in 2009 prior to Joseph's deployment to Afghanistan.

Here are some actions that could get you kicked off your next flight:

Attempting to join the mile-high club

Two men had to be removed from a flight between Dallas and Vegas last year due to their bizarre response to a woman’s perfume.

“The passengers smelled a ladies perfume, liked it and proceeded to lean over their seats and press their noses against her neck to smell it more. It was unreal,” flight attendant Bobby Laurie, from a major US airline, said.

Discussing which is the safest seat
A Muslim family was removed from an AirTran flight last month after passengers heard them discussing the safest place to sit and misconstrued the nature of the conversation.

FIND FACTS-11/17/11- THURSDAY

A 40-year-old farmer in South Africa was killed by his beloved pet hippo, Humphrey, when the animal dragged the farmer into a river and mauled him to death.

Marius Els, an Army major, had raised the 2,600 pound animal and considered Humphrey a part of his family, according to the U.K.’s Guardian.

Others had warned Els that hippos were dangerous and warned him against keeping Humphrey, but he ignored their warnings and was known ride around on the 5-year-old hippopotamus’s back, according to the Guardian.

“Humphrey’s like a son to me, he’s just like a human,” The Guardian reported Els saying earlier this year. “There’s a relationship between me and Humphrey, and that’s what some people don’t understand.”

Els had tried to domesticate the hippo he bought when it was 5 months old from people who had rescued it from the very river where Els ultimately met his end.

“They think you can only have a relationship with dogs, cats and domestic animals,” Els said at the time. “But I have a relationship with the most dangerous animal in Africa.”

Hippos are one of the most dangerous and aggressive mammals, according to the San Diego Zoo.

Would you try to make a pet out of an animal like this? Do you think that it is a wise decision for people to make?

Now a new type of fraud is affecting the insurance industry - pet scams.

Dishonest claims on animal policies almost quadrupled last year, making it the fasting growing area of insurance crime.

Figures from the Association of British Insurers show there was £1,929,900 worth of pet insurance fraud detected last year – up from just £420,000 in 2009.

However, the true scale, is thought to be far higher and pushing up the average £220 premium. A total of 2.3 million cats and dogs were insured last year and virtually every type of animal can be covered.

The Association of British Insurers is arranging a shared database of information about insured animals to detect fraud.

Insurers believe frauds include owners getting rid of the animal - by selling it or even killing it - then claiming a payout for early death. The animal may never have existed in the first place.

Other owners have injured their pets in "faked accidents" to cover up pre-existing injuries or conditions that were not covered by their policy.

Another scam involves staging the disappearance of an animal, because some policies pay out if a pet is lost or stolen.

Other tactics detected include claims for expensive vet treatments that have either not actually been given, or are unnecessary or are more expensive than they need to be. Experts suspect that some vets are involved.

This evidence shows how desperate people have become in order to get PAID!
However, would you do something like this if it meant that you would receive a great deal of money? Or what are you willing to do to get your pockets full of CASH?

5-Year-Old Raped At McDonald's Playland
A 5-year-old girl was raped at a McDonald's in Anderson Township and deputies are asking for help finding a person wanted for questioning.

According to the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office's incident report, the assault occurred about 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 29 in the Playland of the McDonald's in the 7600 block of Beechmont Avenue.

The victim's grandmother told deputies that as the Playland was closing the girl had a "look on her face like something was wrong."

The girl told her grandmother that a boy digitally penetrated her vagina and that she was forced to digitally penetrate his anus, according to the incident report.

The grandmother told deputies she saw a boy around 13 to 15 years old leave the play area, but before she could comprehend what had happened, the boy was gone.

The incident report described the assailant as white, 12 to 15 years old, about 120 to 130 pounds, with black hair and blue eyes. He was wearing light blue jeans, a gray long-sleeve T-shirt and a jacket.

Despite the description, deputies said they aren't sure the person they're looking for is a teenager.

Deputies released photos Wednesday of a person wanted for questioning in the case. The images were taken by some of the 16 surveillance cameras inside the restaurant and play area, deputies said.

The McDonald's franchise owner said he was taking the matter seriously and cooperating with authorities.

Do you believe this? How would you feel if this was your child? Or one of your relatives? Is this worth a McRib sandwich?

FIND FACTS- 11/14/11-MONDAY

Man searches dump for wife’s ring – A 34-year-old man searches for his wife’s ring in a garbage dump. Brian McGuinn from Florida sought help from the garbage company when he accidentally threw out his wife’s engagement ring in the garbage dump. They gave him a suit and goggles, and leveled out an area for him to search.

It seemed hopeless as Brian McGuinn stood before a 9-ton mountain of rotten garbage, desperately hoping to find his wife’s engagement ring.

McGuinn accidentally tossed out the 1.5-carat engagement ring in the trash with a disposable razor the night before.

On Halloween day, McGuinn donned a protective suit and mask and waded through the trash. Crews warned him it was hopeless.

A worker offered to get a bulldozer to make the search easier. Ten minutes later, McGuinn found a cup from his wife’s favorite dessert spot and found their trash bag but the contents were spilled everywhere.

He took off his gloves, reached into a pool of black sludge and miraculously pulled out the engagement ring.

The couple is expecting their first child in a few months.

What do you think of this guy? Was this the romantic thing to do or was he just too cheap to buy another ring? How far would you go for a loved one?

Mom locked teen in closet, cops say – The cops in Costa Mesa, California say that a mom locked her teen daughter in closet for 6 hours. The police arrested the mother, whose name was withheld, for allegedly locking her 13-year-old in a closet. She is also accused of hitting the girl with a stick because the child earned bad grades.

The 32-year-old woman is charged with one misdemeanor count of child abuse, Costa Mesa police told the Daily Pilot, which has decided not to name the mother to protect the identity of her daughter, a minor.

Authorities alleged that on Oct. 29 the mother hit her 13-year-old daughter three times with a stick and then locked her in a closet for six hours as punishment for “bad” grades, said Costa Mesa Police Sgt. Phil Myers.

He did not know the grades the girl earned.

Who do you think is right in this situation? The Mother or the daughter? What type of message is this sending?

It's a well-known fact that pregnant women get cravings: pickles, ice cream, olives, everything covered in mustard, even dirt at times. But roadkill is a new one. Since becoming pregnant, British artist and taxidermist, Alison Brierley, has developed a taste for the roadside carcasses she once only used as materials for her art.

"Usually I eat really healthily but now I' m pregnant I get strong cravings for roadkill," Brierly told the Daily Mail. "It's more gamey than other meat and I love the taste." The expectant mother hypothesizes that it's because her body craves the iron from the meat. She doesn't mind the craving because she doesn't have to feel guilty about eating all of the extra meat. "I know it's had a completely free range and natural life," Brierly said.

"The first time I picked something up was when I drove past a perfectly good pheasant," Brierly recounted. "I took it home and marinated it in olive oil for four days before I made a kind of Kentucky-fried pheasant dish." But Brierly, who is due to have a baby boy in February, does not spend her days trolling the highways for pheasants, hares, pigeons, rabbits, owls, or partridges (her typical choice meats). She mostly gets her "groceries" by way of tip offs from friends, whom she rewards with dinner parties featuring a roadkill roast.

MIAMI -- A man was found dead inside a Miami home swarmed with thousands of bees, but a cause of death has not yet been released.

Miami Fire Rescue spokesman Lt. Ignatius Carroll told CBS 4 the unidentified man was standing on a chair Saturday when he fell. He had been trying to remove the bees from a bedroom.

The man's daughter found the body but was unable to get to her father because of the bees. Even fire rescue crews were concerned. A bee removal specialist was called in, but the man was already dead by the time rescue crews were able to get inside the room. It's estimated that nearly 60,000 bees were in the room at the time.

The Medical Examiner Office will determine the cause of death.

FIND FACTS- TUESDAY-11/8/2011

Are Buddy and Pedro, two African penguins at the Toronto Zoo, gay?

Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but their keepers have noticed the two are inseparable, and perhaps most telling, they’re showing signs of mating behaviours.

There are other cases of gay penguins — zoos in New York, Japan, Germany and Sea World Orlando have seen examples.

As part of an experiment a few years ago, Roy and Silo, two male chinstrap penguins at New York’s Central Park zoo, incubated an egg together and raised the chick, named Tango, after she hatched. A children’s book about them called And Tango Makes Three was a smash best seller.

But in Toronto, Buddy and Pedro’s relationship, however you describe it, is destined to come to an end soon because they have a duty. They have top-notch genes, so the zoo intends to separate them from each other and pair them with females for breeding.

Given that African penguins are endangered, the move falls within a species survival plan among zoos.

Buddy, 20, and Pedro, 10, are in Toronto as part of the popular African penguin exhibit that opened at the zoo in May. The two, bred in captivity, were part of a group of 12 penguins — six male, six female — that came to Toronto from zoos in the U.S.

Buddy and Pedro arrived from Toledo, Ohio, where they formed a connection as members of a bachelor flock.

Their relationship, referred to as “pair bonding’’ in zoo speak, continued after they arrived here, say their zoo keepers. Scientists don’t use the words gay or straight when it comes to sexual orientation in animals.

During the day all 12 penguins generally swim and frolic together in their enclosure, which includes a massive pool with underwater windows for the public to view.

But at night Buddy and Pedro pair off together. Every night.

“They do courtship and mating behaviours that females and males would do,’’ one keeper said in an interview.

Those behaviours include making a “braying’’ sound, almost like a donkey, as a mating call. They defend their territory, preen each other, and are constantly standing alone together. In fact when the Star visited the exhibit this week Buddy emerged from the water, followed a few moments later by Pedro. The two huddled together for quite some time.

Their relationship is somewhat of a delicate issue for the keepers to discuss with outsiders. But they’ve all noticed the pair’s bond, and talk about it among themselves.

Can such a thing be true? What do you think the zoo should do?

...The attorney, Joel P. Bennett, told CNN's Anderson Cooper 360 that his client Mr. Cain ( who is running for president in 2015) was "very upset" and was considering talking publicly about the case if she was released from a confidentiality clause.

The National Restaurant Association made financial severance agreements with two women while Cain was the organization's CEO from 1996 to 1999. The New York Times reported late Tuesday that one woman was given $35,000, a year's salary, citing three people with direct knowledge of the payment.

Asked if his client believed Cain was not telling the truth, Bennett told CNN: "Yes."

"Naturally, she's been very upset about all this since the story broke last Sunday, because Mr. Cain has been giving the impression that she's someone who came out and made false allegations. That's certainly not true," Bennett told the station.

Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant may appear in at least one game with the Italian team, Virtus Bologna, for $2 million.

So says team owner Claudio Sabatini, who hasn't been shy about making such bold declarations even if they turn out not to be true. The latest: Sabatini told Il Resto del Carlino he has secured a network deal and unspecified sponsorships to pay for Bryant's proposed $2 million appearance fee. The game would be dubbed "Kobe night."

Sabatini did leave out one kind of important detail: This whole scenario hinges on Bryant actually accepting the offer.

Still, with the NBA canceling the first two weeks of the regular season, it wouldn't be surprising if Bryant would latch onto this idea. Single-game appearances would feed some of his competitive juices. It would mark a return to his childhood roots in Italy. It wouldn't prove as risky to his body as a long-term deal might. Plus, the money actually marks a higher pay rate than the $83.5 million he would be due with the Lakers through the 2013-14 season.

A 2-year-old girl was run over by an SUV driven by her father Monday.

Clarksville police tell Channel 4 News when they arrived at the scene the father was visibly distraught.

"Just imagine what the father felt like running over his own child, that's horrible, when it's your child or someone else's, it's a horrible thing," said Jim Knoll, public information officer for the Clarksville police department.

Ryan Watts, according to police, was backing out of his driveway as his 2-year-old daughter Kylie was playing with friends in the front yard. Police say Watts took precautions, using an adult to spot him as he was backing out at about 2:25 p.m.

The unthinkable happened when Kylie suddenly darted toward the back of the vehicle.

"This turned out to be a tragic accident. The father wasn't doing anything wrong. He had someone back him up, the child was out of harm's way in the beginning," said Knoll.

Kylie was airlifted to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital with bruises on her lower back and arms.

Police told Channel 4 News they don't intend to pursue any charges against the father.

WHAT IS YOUR OPINION ABOUT THIS INCIDENT? Should the father be sentenced? Or what should be done?

I HATE GETTING SICK!!!! I can't sleep properly due to my body temperature being off,(it's either too hot and I sweat or too cold and I shiver!)I begin coughing too much, too long! My throat gets sore and my body aches! YUCK!!!

However, it's funny that every time this happens to me...I think of my Mother. She had the ability to recognize any cold symptom before they would ever get to my brother and me. And she would ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS, give us this homemade remedy she would create called "GOOSE GREASE"! It was a mixture of whiskey, honey, Vick's vapor rub (I think), and maybe "cooking grease" (EWWW!) She would keep it in an old GIN BOTTLE (I swear!) and place it on the highest shelf in the apartment (we lived in the Projects. Yeah Baby!) As though it was this mysterious, magic, brew, that only she knew about! She would grab it, shake it up,find the biggest spoon in the place, and make us take it!

It would make you shiver as it slowly eased down your throat...like a snake!
But IT WORKED! The next morning you would feel great! So, then, she would keep us home from school , dress us in our flannel "Davey Crockett Pajamas", and we would sit on the couch and watch "OLD MOVIES " with her. That was nice! That's maybe why I love movies (especially the OLD ONES), like I do today.
